Lily DAmbrosios Labor Party branch forged signatures of dead men "IndyWatch Feed National"

Rotten branch of the Andrews Labour tree, above the law?

No criminal prosecution for electoral fraud?

It seems that anyone associated with Andrews is above the law.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Climate Action Lily DAmbrosio. Picture: NCA NewsWire / David Crosling

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has continued to stand by key frontbencher Lily DAmbrosio and says revelations about a state branch associated with her are matters for the state party, not for him.

The Australian revealed today that only 13 of 132 members of the Lalor South branch continued to be registered following the partys branch-stacking investigation. Furthermore, at least two people had their signatures forged for their membership to be renewed after their death.

I would not draw any comparison whatsoever between what youve put to me in relation to Lily, Mr Andrews said in response to questions at a press conference.

Go back and read the resignation statements of those who resigned and the statement in relation to the one minister who was in fact removed and I dont think there can be any comparison drawn.

Mr Andrews was referring to the original scandal in 2020 that led to his referral of the matter to the IBAC, and led to the internal investigation.

These are matters for the state secretary and as for any integrity agency, they do not need to be referred matters and, in fact, unbeknownst to us at the time, that integrity agency was, in fact, investigating these matters at the time that it was referred, he said.

We had an intervention in this state. Weve had a comprehensive process of reform. We are a stronger party because of that.

We are a better party because of that and whats more, when it comes to the integrity of Lily DAmbrosio I dont think Ive ever met anybody more focused on their duties than her. Shes a person of character and integrity.

Labor Party branch forged signatures of dead men

Leaked details circulated during Victorian Labors 2020 branch-stacking investigation show that less than 10 per cent or 13 of 132 members signed up to Climate Action, Energy and Resources Minister Lily DAmbrosios Lalor South branch continued to be registered following the probe, which was conducted by former premier Steve Bracks and former federal deputy Labor leader Jenny Macklin.

The Niger Crisis Africas Rejection of Western Neocolonialis "IndyWatch Feed National"

by Joachim Hagopian

The rising challenge of the multipolar world is destined to crush US unipolar dominance and hegemony as the international power dynamics radically shifts from West to East.

Now we are just days away from the world attention focusing on Johannesburg, South Africa while it hosts the all-important BRICS summit August 22-24.

With over 40 nations clamoring to join this rising economic alliance, already containing the global population majority and one-third of the global GDP surpassing the G7, BRICS will soon be releasing its own gold backed currency ostensibly to replace the soon-to-be deposed king US dollar as international reserve trade currency. This imminent event is just one more ominous sign that Western civilization is in a crumbling state of freefall collapse, in stark contrast with the Russia-China led Global South multipolar world majority.

Within the context of unfolding events within Africa, remnant chains of neocolonialism are finally being broken by the economic and political alliances made with the emerging Eastern powers Russia, China and Iran. This geopolitical analysis examines ongoing developments representing todays rapidly changing dynamics moving away from the unipolar to the multipolar world where the world nation majority of the Global South is embracing its strategic realignment with the multipolar Eastern powers.

At nearly twice the size of Texas, the landlocked sub-Saharan West African nation of Niger is the sixth largest country in Africa and ranks 22nd largest in the world. Niger is located in the Sahel region of Africa, a geographic strip across the African continent from the Atlantic Ocean to t...

Andrews Governments proposed bail changes fall short of recommendations "IndyWatch Feed National"

Thousands of people will continue to be senselessly funnelled into Victorias prisons by the Andrews Government under deferred proposed changes to bail laws, according to the Human Rights Law Centre.

The proposed Bill delays implementation of reforms by 6 months. This comes despite the family of Veronica Marie Nelson, a strong Gunditjmara, Dja Dja Wurrung, Wiradjuri and Yorta Yorta woman who passed away in custody, calling on the Andrews Government to implement urgent, wholesale changes to Victorias bail laws in the next 3 months and for these reforms to be referred to as Poccums Law.

Poccum was the nickname Veronica received from her family; as a child they took Veronica out to see a possum in the tree, and she would pronounce possum as poccum.

In January 2023, the Coronial Inquest into Veronica Nelsons passing labelled the bail laws a complete and unmitigated disaster. Coroner McGregor found that the bail laws discriminate against Aboriginal people, are incompatible with Victorias Human Rights Charter, and should be changed urgently.

The changes introduced by the Andrews Government fall short of meeting Coroner McGregors recommendations and the familys calls. In addition to the delay, reverse onus provisions will remain, and a bail offence will remain. People who are unlikely to be sentenced to imprisonment will continue to wait for a court hearing behind bars.

In March this year, 56 organisations in the legal, human rights and health sectors, including the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service, Robinson Gill Lawyers, Dhadjowa Foundation and the Human Rights Law Centre, supported the familys calls and urged the Andrews Government to immediately implement Poccums Law by:

  1. Removing the presumption against bail.

  2. Granting access to bail unless the prosecution shows that there is a specific and immediate risk to the safety of another person; a serious risk of interfering with a witness; or a demonstrable risk that the person will flee the jurisdiction.

  3. Explicitly requiring that a person must not be remanded for an offence that is unlikely to result in a sentence of imprisonment.

  4. Removing all bail offences.

Key proposed changes in the bail laws: additional court considerations for Aboriginal people applying for bail, removing two bail offences and limiting the operation of reverse-onus provisions against children, are due to the familys strong advocacy as they fight to ensure that what happened to Veronica never happens again.

Quotes from Amala Ramarathinam, Acting Manager Lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre:

"The Andrews Government has acknowledged that Victorias dangerous and discriminatory bail laws are in need of urgent reform. Yet it is delaying these changes to the Bail Act by six months, and the changes dont go far enough to stop inflicting unnecessary harm on people, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and women experiencing disadvantage, or prevent a death in custody.

If the Andrews Government is serious about addressing its botched bail laws and meeting its obligations under the Victorian Charter of Human Rights, it must implement Poccums Law. This includes scrapping the reverse onus provisions, creating a presumption in favour of bail, explicitly requiring that a person must not be locked up if theyre unlikely to receive a sentence of imprisonment, and removing the offence of failing to answer bail.

The family of Veronica Nelson have led the calls for fair bail laws with tremendous strength. They must be listened to, and the Andrews Government must act on their calls for change.

Background

Following knee-jerk amendments to Victorias bail laws, thousands of people have been thrown into Victorias prisons. Since 2018, the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in prison has almost doubled, and right now a staggering 42.1% of people in prison are unsentenced and awaiting a court hearing or trial.

Victorias bail laws have destroyed families and communities and put peoples lives at risk. They have led to a soaring prison population, even though Victorias crime rates have flat-lined.

Call for a super profits tax to provide affordable housing is gaining support "IndyWatch Feed National"

Contributed by Joe Montero

People know somethings wrong. They know somethings wrong in their society when we have Commonwealth Bank recording over $10bn in profit while ordinary Australians are struggling to put a roof over their head. These words were said by Zach Smith, construction division national secretary of the CFMMEU.

This was in the context of the unions bid to push for a super profit tax in the coming national conference of the Labor party in Brisbane. It comes at a time when the cost of putting a roof over ones head is the biggest financial burden by far the biggest financial stress faced by most Australians.

Photo by Mick Tsikas/AAP: Zack Smith

The broad community wants the government to act decisively and on a big enough scale to make a real difference, and the current of the Albanese government doesnt meet this standard. The promise of up to $500 million a year for social housing is far too little to make an impact.

The CFMMEU proposal for a super profits tax has been modelled by Oxford Economics Australia, and the findings are that a 40 percent tax will raise more than $500 to build 750,000 new homes over the next two decades. This will not solve the whole problem. But it is far more than has been offered so far.

Reports of massive increase in super profits at the top end of the corporate world are drawing a backlash, and this is bound to make the idea of a super profits tax an increasingly popular option.

The latest has been the huge jump on recorded bank profits, coming at a time of successive interest rate hikes, declining quality of service, and other pressures on the cost of living. When the Commonwealth Bank posted a record $10 billion for the year, it drew a flood of complaints. This came on top of the criticism of a similar jump in the profits made by supermarket giants Coles and Woolworths. They have been accused of large scale price gauging. Before that it was the oil and gas companies doing the same thig.

While much of the business world is under stress, those corporations that enjoy monopoly power can use this power to gain what the market would otherwise not allow. Profit gained in this way is the definition of super profit.

This sort of profit comes at the expense of other businesses and out of the pockets of consumers forced to pay higher prices. Australia has little restriction on monopoly power.

In this light, the idea of a tax on super profits comes across as quite reasonable and explains why the proposal is gaining support within the Labor Party and it political working class base. For example,  Labor for Housing convener Julijana Todorovic said that the federal  is acknowledging that this is the number one issue for many people across the country.

The Greens and at least some of the independents are warming to the idea. But it is the growing criticism of the actions of monopoly corporations that is turning the tide of public opinion and feeding the calls for government action.

Philosemitism, Public Health And Bob Hawkes Bloody Legacy "IndyWatch Feed National"

Its 2023 four decades since Bob Hawke won office, introduced Medicare, and then corrupted his own creation. And yet despite overwhelming scientific and medical consensus of the harm it causes children, Australia still subsidises male circumcision, writes Chris Coughran.

Every Australian, from newborn babe to prime minister, can share in the cheapest, simplest, and fairest health insurance scheme Australias ever had, Bob Hawke boasted in 1984. But by July of the following year, Hawke was personally intervening in health department affairs in order to create loopholes in the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).

The issue was neonatal circumcision, and its planned removal from the MBS on 1 July 1985. Such a swift policy excision had been the legally, ethically, medically, and fiscally responsible course of action recommended to health minister Neal Blewett by the Australian College of Paediatrics, the National Health and Medical Research Council, and the MBS Revision Committee.

Although widely applauded, the decision did not go down well with people of the book, especially the Jewish community in Melbourne.

Blewett recalls Hawke telephoning to berate him for signing off on this particular aspect of Medicare reform: Youve united the Jews and the Moslems for the first time in a thousand years, and against us.

If its good enough for me its good enough for the MBS, Hawke would summarily conclude correspondence with a senior health department official seeking advice on the matter from the prime ministers office.

Im an Israeli, Hawke had proclaimed to Blanche dAlpuget two years earlier. If I were to have my life again, I would want to be born a Jew. Throughout the 1970s, as leader of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), Hawke had visited Israel on several occasions, befriending the likes of Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres.

Honorary Jewishness was effectively conferred in 1976, when a forest of 10,000 trees on the southern side of Mount Carmel in northern Israel was named in Hawkes honour. Hawke was deeply moved by the gesture, butaccording to Hawkes most recent biographer, Troy Bramston:

Rawdon Dalrymple, Australias ambassador to Israel from 1973 to 1975, revealed that Israeli leaders cultivated Hawke. They regarded Bob as a bit naive, he said. They saw him as someone who is not a fool but swallows a line. This view is backed up by a dispatch sent from the British High Commission to London after Hawke became prime minister. Hawke seems to me to have been the archetypal sucker upon who the Israelis are always ready to seize, and to con, feeding uncritical minds with skilful Israeli propaganda, John Mason wrote.

At home, Hawkes philosemitism was proudly on display, much to the consternation of Australian Labor Party (ALP) stalwarts including rival leader Bill Hayden. Hawkes growing reputation as a genuine legend among the Australian Jewry fuelled speculat...

The hollow spaces of the university campus "IndyWatch Feed National"

The new student precinct at the University of Melbourne marks what is becoming overwhelmingly clear about Australias university model: prestige and outward appearance count for more than the quality of education for students, and certainly takes precedence over ensuring fair and secure conditions for those who work in these institutions. It is therefore not so much the aesthetic or design of the building itself, but that it reflects something more pernicious that lies at the heart of higher education: a hollowing out of the system.

Radical shift needed in relationship with our environment "IndyWatch Feed National"

A radical shift in our relationship with the Australian environment is needed, and it is time we intervene in the extinction crisis, according to scientific experts.

A review led by Charles Darwin University found negative trends in Australian biodiversity loss caused by invasive species, interrupted First Nations land and sea management, altered fire regimes, and changed water flows could rapidly worsen unless policymakers act with haste.

CDU Research Institute for Environment and Livelihoods researcher and lead author Professor Sarah Legge said there was a desperate need for increased investment, policy reform and expanded conservation management.

Current reform of Australias environmental legislation could mark transformational change, said Professor Legge. An accumulating array of threats to Australian biodiversity reflect the low value placed on conservation of the environment, with this perspective deeply ingrained in inadequate legislation, policy and management.

Settlement reached over the murder of asylum seeker Reza Berati on Manus Island "IndyWatch Feed National"

Private security firm G4S and the Australian government have settled civil proceedings with the parents of Iranian asylum seeker Reza Berati who was killed during the 2014 Manus Island riots.

Mr Berati was aged 23 when he was beaten to death by guards and other local contractors in a violent rampage at Australias offshore detention centre on Manus that also left 77 other asylum seekers injured.

In 2021, Mr Beratis parents Ita Torab Berati and Farideh Baralak sued G4S and the Australian Government for the mental harm suffered as a result of their sons murder.

Nine years after Rezas death the parties have settled the claims on confidential terms.

Maurice Blackburn and the Human Rights Law Centre are representing the Berati family.

In June, the last refugees held on Nauru were evacuated to Australia after 10 years. Around 75 people are still being held in Papua New Guinea and need urgent evacuation.

Recent reports have revealed alleged corruption at the heart of offshore detention, with secret multi-million-dollar payments by Australian government contractors to politicians in Papua New Guinea and Nauru.

Quotes attributable to Mrs Baralak and Mr Berati:

We still feel the pain of Rezas absence every single day. Reza came to Australia seeking safety. Then he was murdered in a detention centre where he should have been kept safe. He had done nothing wrong.

We hope that no other parent has to go through this pain and that nothing like this is allowed to happen ever again.

While there is nothing that will bring our Reza back or lessen the pain of his loss, we are glad that this case is over. We are satisfied that we fought for justice for Reza and are relieved now that we can try to move on with our lives.

Quotes attributable to Jennifer Kanis, Principal Lawyer and head of the social justice practice at Maurice Blackburn:

We are pleased that after so many years, Rezas parents have achieved some justice over their sons death. While this settlement is an important step, they will forever grieve his absence. We must not forget that at the heart of this legal case is the story of a family who lost their child and brother in the most brutal of circumstances.

The injustices experienced by Reza and other asylum seekers detained offshore underscore the importance of establishing a national charter of human rights to ensure that all people in Australias care are treated with humanity and dignity.

Quotes attributable to Freya Dinshaw, Acting Legal Director, Human Rights Law Centre:

Reza Beratis murder has become a symbol of both the brutality and impunity of the offshore detention system. He came to this country seeking safety and was killed by the very people meant to be protecting him. We were honoured to work with Mrs Baralak and Mr Berati to help deliver this small measure of justice.

Offshore processing has inflicted untold suffering upon people merely asking for safety while private security operators made multi-million dollar profits. The Albanese Government must urgently evacuate the 75 people still stranded in PNG, and end the harmful policy of offshore detention once and for all.

Gumbaynggirr Elder violently arrested in Newry State Forest "IndyWatch Feed National"

Preceding a weekend of forest actions, the conflict in Newry State Forest on the Mid-North Coast further escalated late last week as NSW Police violently arrested and locked up Gumbaynggirr Elder, Bumajin, after he attempted to perform ceremony in the forest.

This arrest is the latest incident in an ongoing conflict brought on by the NSW Government at Newry who have commenced logging operations in a State Forest essential to the Minns Government promised Great Koala National Park and sacred lands of Gumbaynggirr people.

Sue Higginson MLC. Photo Tree Faerie.

Greens MP and spokesperson for the environment Sue Higginson said, The fact that the NSW Government is arresting and locking up First Nations people so they can destroy their sacred lands is completely horrific.

Were talking about a forest that Gumbaynggirr totem animals are dependent on for survival and Elders are doing everything they can to protect them. The government is ignoring them and forcibly removing them so they can destroy this precious forest.

Bumajin was performing ceremony on public land, his land at Newry. NSW Police, defending the interests of the NSW Government, violently arrested him and held him in police custody overnight. Meanwhile, the state continues to destroy the precious forest and the forest dependent species that live in it. We have reached a point that this has gone far enough.

This is absurd decision making by the NSW Government they have committed to making these forests a national park but theyre sending in the police to commit violent acts against First Nations people in the name of breaking their own promise.

What is happening at Newry with respect to the Gumbaynggirr Elders and community is unbelievable, said Ms Higginson. The disrespect being shown is disgraceful. The Elders with cultural authority have been cast aside, manhandled by police and ignored by the Forestry Corporation in their direct pleas to stop and listen to them. This has got to end.

Googles web DRM Proposal, a new age of (digital) slavery "IndyWatch Feed National"

Who asked for this

Googles nightmare Web Integrity API wants a DRM gatekeeper for the web

(All part of the nanny state agenda)

The little Android robot is watching everything you do.

Google's newest proposed web standard is... DRM? Over the weekend the Internet got wind of this proposal for a "Web Environment Integrity API. " The explainer is authored by four Googlers, including at least one person on Chrome's "Privacy Sandbox" team, which is responding to the death of tracking cookies by building a user-tracking ad platform right into the browser.

The intro to the Web Integrity API starts out: "Users often depend on websites trusting the client environment they run in. This trust may assume that the client environment is honest about certain aspects of itself, keeps user data and intellectual property secure, and is transparent about whether or not a human is using it."

The goal of the project is to learn more about the person on the other side of the web browser, ensuring they aren't a robot and that the browser hasn't been modified or tampered with in any unapproved ways. The intro says this data would be useful to advertisers to better count ad impressions, stop social network bots, enforce intellectual property rights, stop cheating in web games, and help financial transactions be more secure.

Perhaps the most telling line of the explainer is that it "takes inspiration from existing native attestation signals such as [Apple's] App Attest and the [Android] Play Integrity API." Play Integrity (formerly called "SafetyNet") is an Android API that lets apps find out if your device has been rooted. Root access allows you full control over the device that you purchased, and a lot of app developers don't like that. So if you root an Android phone and get flagged by the Android Integrity API, several types of apps will just refuse to run. You'll generally be locked out of banking apps, Google Wallet, online games, Snapchat, and some media apps like Netflix. You could be using root access to cheat at games or phish banking data, but you could also just want root to customize your device, remove crapware, or have a viable backup system. Play Integrity doesn't care and will lock you out of those apps either way. Google wants the same thing for the web.

Google's plan is that, during a webpage transaction, the web server could require you to pass an "environment attestation" test before you get any data. At this point your browser would contact a "third-party" attestation server, a...

Judge to Pastor:  I Hear You, I Hear You "IndyWatch Feed National"

(active Christianity)

by Mary W Maxwell, LLB

Dear Pastor Paul Robert Burton of Newcastle, NSW,

First, thank you for caring both for our many stolen children and for those who have led the way in courts to try to stop this practice.

It is now 3:00am here in the US and I have just finished attending your court case by zoom. For the first two hours, the audio was awful and I got disconnected twice, but the last two hours were thrilling. The audio was so good I could hear the judge think.

Well, that judge, whose name I did not catch wanted us to hear him think.  Clearly, His Honor (and for once I am not being sarcastic) was struggling to stay within his ambit yet also reaffirm your bringing in of principles. The courts conscience was showing all over the place, what a welcome sight!

I mistakenly thought this August 11, 2023 day in court was a committal hearing, to set a date for your trial. I take it you have been charged for six years child removed May 19th2017 (outdoing Patrick ODeas and Russell Pridgeons four-year ordeal thus far, since their Operation Noetic drama in 2018). As I gleaned from the zoom meeting, you, and one other person, Dr Katelaris, are the Accused for having violated Sec 105 of The NSW Children and Young Persons Care and Protection Act, in revealing on Facebook the name of a child-in-trouble.

I heard you say But Channel 7 and others had already revealed it, and they have not been charged with anything. (Buckleys chance of that happening!) Then I heard the judge say True, true, and you can bring out that unfairness at trial but he kept saying he had a lesser job to perform, which was to decide if a properly-instructed jury would convict you.

I heard the judge said verbatim Im fairly confident that my morals are OK, but I have to administer the law.

Pastor Paul, I am older than you. I can remember when it was not the least bit threatening to go before a judge, as he (or rarely in those days, she) did simply administer the law. My experience in Oz that is, my proxy experience for others has had none of that. I have mainly encountered judges who are immoral (or, to be generous, off their rocker). This zoom hearing was hugely restorative. Maybe you did not see it that way, as your corpus is in the offing, but it looked good from afar.

[Note from PPRB: Magistrate Stone is a good man and I have appeared before him a few times over the last six years, if I had got Janine Lacy as originally listed, I am doubtful she would have heard me l...

BILL SHORTEN and ROBODEBT "IndyWatch Feed National"

The video of Bill Shorten passionately getting stuck into Scott Morrison over the deadly Robodebt fraud is truly fantastic theatre viewing, as much for what was not said than for what was said.

This posting: https://wp.me/p1n8TZ-3nH

Supposedly a Question without notice, what you can watch in the video below is a very carefully scripted  bit of play-acting with the question that was put to Bill Shorten and his carefully rehearsed reply.

HANSARD WHO WERE THE REAL VICTIMS? 10th August 2023

In response to the question, Who are the real victims?, Bill Shorten responded with a well rehearsed statement, which was mostly true, but there was an easily missed whopper of a lie that may be the reason why Scott Morrison was quietly smirking in the back row of parliament.

BILL SHORTEN: The real victims were those who suffered trauma, anxiety and distress. [TRUE]

The real victims were those who took their own lives. [TRUE]

The real victims are the mothers of those who took their own lives. [TRUE]

The real victims are all those Australians who have lost trust in government [TRUE]

because of an unlawful scheme run for 4 years. [THE LIE This scam, based upon illegal data-matching had been run by the ALP and Coalitions governments for decades.]

THE TRUTH BUT FAR, FAR FROM THE WHOLE TRUTH

Ask yourself is that why Scott M...

Cardano Q2 Surge: Stablecoin Soars, TVL Skyrockets, And Dapp Transactions Hit Record Highs "IndyWatch Feed National"

Cardano (ADA), the blockchain platform renowned for its scalability and technological approach, has made significant strides in the crypto market, as highlighted by the recently released Messari report

The report provides valuable insights into Cardanos achievements in Q2 2023, solidifying its position as a prominent player within the industry.

With a strong focus on fostering a robust ecosystem and pushing the boundaries of decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), Cardano is poised to reshape the landscape of blockchain technology, according to Messari.

Cardano TVL Ranking Skyrockets, Climbs From 34th to 21st

Per the report, Cardano experienced substantial growth in stablecoin value, with a 34.9% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) increase and a significant 382.1% year-to-date (YTD) surge.

Indigo Protocol emerged as a frontrunner in stablecoin and synthetic asset issuance, solidifying its dominance in the space. Furthermore, the Total Value Locked (TVL) witnessed a shift towards newer projects, as protocols created in the past six months accounted for 47.4% of TVL dominance in Q2.

The TVL in USD rose by 9.7% QoQ and 198.6% YTD. Cardanos TVL ranking climbed from 34th to 21st across all chains in 2023.

Cardano

On the other hand, average daily decentralized application (dapp) transactions on Cardano surged by 49% QoQ, marking the third consecutive quarterly increase. Moreover, Minswap, an automated market maker (AMM), showcased the largest absolute growth in transaction volume.

However, several new dapps also contributed to the overall surge. Minswaps popularity soared in Q2, surpassing the leading NFT marketplace jpg.store regarding dapp transactions.

This trend aligned with the sectoral shift, as DeFi activity gained momentum while NFT activity experienced a decline. The overall increase in dapp transactions reached a substantial 49.0% QoQ, averaging 57,900 daily transactions.

Q2 NFT Metrics Reflect Market Correction

According to Messari, NFT metrics experienced a decline in Q2. Average daily NFT transactions dropped by 35.7% QoQ to 2,900, while the total quarterly trading volume fell by 41.9% QoQ to $46.2 million.

Cardano

This downward trend aligned with the broader market, as even blue-chip collection floor prices declined in 2023.

Notably, NFT sales volume remained concentrated primarily in jpg.store, which dominated the marketplace with a 98% market share. Nevertheless, unique buyers continued to drive NFT activity, while a relatively small number of sellers catered to this larger pool of buyers.

Messari further highlights that Cardanos ecosystem showcased expansion in multiple sectors, particularly in DeFi. Protocols for swaps, stablecoins, synthetics, and unique Cardano-centric services like lending staking power surfaced alongside the incumbents.

Cardanos second quarter showed substantial growth and diversification across various sectors, including DeFi, NFTs, and Layer-2 solutions.

Key statistics revealed a surge in stablecoin value, a shift in TVL dominance towards newer projects, and an impressive increase in average daily dapp transactions.

While NFT metrics experienced a decline, the ecosystem demonstrated resilience and competition among protocols.

Cardano

In contrast, Cardanos native token, ADA, has been experiencing a decline in line with the broader market trend since April 15, after reaching its yearly peak of $0.4620.

ADA is trading at $0.2933, reflecting a 1.4% decrease in the past 24 hours. Over the last fourteen days, it has declined nearly 6%.

The Mingling "IndyWatch Feed National"

How sea kayaking sustains me.

By George Monbiot, published in the New Statesman, 26th July 2023

Theres one question Im asked more than any other. How do you cope? Like other environmental journalists, I spend my life rolling in the excrement of humanity. Every day, I must think about the terrible things were doing to the living planet and our own prospects of survival. Somehow I have to reconcile this knowledge with bringing up children. Somehow I have to start work in the morning with the expectation that there is some bloody point to it.

None of us can live without hope. Yet with every year of inaction and denial by our governments, with every extension of economic power over political life, the grounds for hope seem fainter. I have an unhealthy habit of disassociation, seeking to park my environmental awareness in one part of my mind while the rest of my life occupies another. But as time goes by, the wall begins to crumble.

The answer I give invariably disappoints the questioner. I think people expect a universal law, a profound insight into the human condition whose applications they can immediately deploy. Sorry. Its sea kayaking.

When I first sat in a kayak, I was 13. It was a school trip, paddling the tame and stagnant waters of the Kennet and Avon Canal. I had, until that point, never found a sport I enjoyed. I could have been a professional footballer, had it not been for a career-ending condition: two left feet. I loved the idea of rugby, but I could scarcely see the ball, let alone handle it. When it came to the selection of positions on the pitch, mine was always left behind. But when I sat in that kayak, it was as if my physical life suddenly began.

Im not sure what triggered the feeling. Being so close to the water? Sensing the power the paddle lent me? I grasped the principles immediately and found myself racing ahead and having to stop and wait for the others, as they splashed and veered about. Like a penguin, ungainly on land, I turned out to be graceful in the water.

But I had no desire to compete. Almost from the first moment, I intuited something else about a kayak: that it could take me anywhere. It was so light, so narrow, with so small a draft, that you could pass through the tightest channels, while bouncing off obstacles without damaging the boat. I didnt want to kayak with other people, let alone against them. I was sitting in an escape hatch. This vessel would enable me, when I needed it, to escape from others; escape from myself.

For most of my adult life, I lived inland. I bought a second-hand kayak as soon as I had a place to keep it, and explored every inch of the local rivers, lakes, channels and drains. I found I could visit places inaccessible by other means. I could travel down cuts and leats through the cities in which I lived, hung with great swags of vines and creepers, that could have been backwaters in the vrzea plains of the Amazon. When I stepped out of the boat to see where I was, I might discover the park-and-ride on one side of me and the municipal dump on the other. Passing behind the screens of vegetation, below the level on which the rest of human life was lived, I seemed to inhabit another world.

But the real awakening came when I signed up for an expedition around the north-west coast of the island of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides. If you set out to design a coast for kayaking, you could not do better than this wild ragged margin. On the right tide, you can ride through rocky arches, behind stacks, into sea caves that dwindle into darkness. Otters are everywhere, the dogs standing in the water to chitter at you. Dolphins and porpoises slick past the boat, seals come close enough to shake you by the hand.

At night, we camped by calm lagoons separated from the sea by fissures in the cliffs not much wider than a kayaks length. Sitting on the beach, listening to the oystercatchers, watching the weird ethereal glimmer of the night-long twilight shifting on the water, I realised that, once equipped with a seagoing boat, everything I needed could be found somewhere in the British Isles.

Our instructor taught us to surf in our kayaks on Uig Sands: much easier than using a board. Had the wind abated a little more, we could have travelled south, with a high chance of paddling among minke whales. But that t...
